4th UPDATE: A need for repair

Yes, I know I’ve fallen on my duties, if that’s what you can call them. It’s been almost a year since I initially began this particular discussion on repair. I finally did hear the results to my blood tests. It supposedly isn’t RA. Though that is a relief, it is not a relief of my pain. The next step is to just give up. The alternative is to go back to my general practitioner and see what she wants to do. One option that was stated before was physical therapy. That sounds like more pain to me.

Things have subsided enough that I just don’t care at the moment to further the investigation of my pain. And thus, I think that I am finished with this topic.

Happy New Year and all that jazz.

3rd UPDATE: A need for repair

So, I finally went to the Orthopedic Surgeon. He specializes in sports medicine in the knee. He told me it was hard to make a diagnosis since my x-rays and MRIs were both clear. Aside from the little bit of fluid in the joint and the little bit of inflammation below the knee cap, that’s mostly true. His remedy this day was to give me a cortisone shot and follow up with him in 6 weeks.

Needless to say, I gave the cortisone 2 days to dissipate and for the joint to return to normal, which did not happen. The joint has seemingly gotten worse. Now, I constantly feel pressure around the knee and ~70% of the day I have pain shooting out of one side. “How is this better?,” you may ask. The answer is, it is not. So I moved my follow up appointment up by 5 weeks. Boy is the doctor even more confused.

This time, there is no current remedy. He prescribed me more pain killers and ordered some blood work, specifically for a RA screening. Yes, you probably read and assumed that correctly, RA=rheumatoid arthritis. The next step is to either be referred to a rheumatoid specialist if that is the result or to try and do arthroscopic surgery. I had my blood drawn the next day and currently await the results.

2nd UPDATE: A need for repair

So, I finally got my results back for my MRI. They were negative, meaning everything is intact and not damaged. However, there is some fluid on the knee which is causing my problems. The big thing I wonder though, is why is the fluid there and what caused it to begin with?

Well, I’m following up with an orthopeadist to see what they can do to treat me. Probably just injections, but that’s a start.

UPDATE: A need for repair

So, this Wednesday, I’ll finally be having an MRI. Hopefully it will be of both of my knees so we can see what is really going on. But at least it will be of my right knee as a start.

A need for repair

It may not be what you expect that is in need of repair. Or maybe it is.

Since 1998, I have had multiple doctors allude to the fact that I probably have arthritis in my knees. However, they never actually made a legitimate diagnosis or statement saying that I actually had it. I have had bursitis in both of my knees, a “side effect” of arthritis, for most of the time. Also in 2004 I was diagnosed with a Baker’s cyst in the back of the left knee, a “side effect” of bursitis. It is treatable by various methods, but not necessarily able to be relieved of this forever. I have treated these problems with OTC medicine like Aleve and glucosamine on a daily basis as well as wearing a knee brace as needed. The impact of this self-treatment has proven generally well. This past week though, I experienced a new problem with my right knee in the realm of extreme pain for no reason what-so-ever that does not correlate to walking or climbing stairs or anything for that matter.

I went to an urgent care facility and was finally told that I do have arthritis in my knees. No mention of which type, rheumatoid or osteo. Not that it really matters at this point. I had an x-ray that showed my bones were fine. I was given a knee imobilizer, crutches, a pain killer and an anti-inflamatory and told to follow up with my doctor later for a more specific diagnosis and possibly an MRI.

The pain has gotten better, until this evening when it returned. Back to the pain killers! I must say that I am just over these problems. I am only 28 and have the knees of an 80-year old who played sports for too long. We’ll see what comes down the pipe whenever I get to follow up with my doctor. Hopefully when it’s all over, I’ll not have something to hold me down.

You moved to Vegas?

Yes. Yes I did. Where have you been?Mirage Volcano

I’m now in week 4 of my wonderful new job. I did say wonderful there and I believe it may stay that way longer than 4 years (the Disney stint). It’s a great time in the real world where you are respected for who you are, what you do, and why you are the way you are. If not respected, at least understood.

Lack of adult supervision allows for a level of trust but still allows for those times of fun to occur. In fact, even if there was constant supervision, the fun would still occur. As long as work occurs and there aren’t any problems, then we can go unnoticed. And not in the bad way that all of us technical entertainment folk receive.

Though I am still poor from having to move the family, and everything else that comes with having one, across the country…I still can see a road of green that stretches far ahead.

Leaving Disney

August 2nd will be the last day of my Disney career. This time it is on my own terms! On June 1st, I just passed 4 years with the company.

I accepted a job with KA logo doing lighting maintenance. It is a day crew position with a very set schedule and double the pay. How could I not take this? It’s now my 2nd dream job that I have been able to take ahold of. This allows for me to see my family. What’s that?!? Everyone at Disney knows what I’m talking about here. For a company so based on family values and wanting to do everything they can for their guest families, they sure don’t give a shit about the families that work for them and make all of those dreams come true or at least the entertainment division doesn’t.

But enough ranting about the past…on with my future!
